Spec Blinds
Asme b16 48 standard that covers line blanks.
Spec blinds. One is solid disc and the other is hollowed. Simply loosen the other bolts partially removing them and rotate the spectacle blind around. An 8 blind or a spectacle blind is a piping fitting that is used for providing positive isolation.
A spectacle blind is basically made up of two metal discs attached to each other by a metal strip as shown in the figure. Blinds are mounted onto one of the bolts so that when you need to isolate a section of pipe it s easy. Typically spec blinds are mounted in the open position so that your pipe flow operates normally and is unubstructed.
It is different than a valve in that the blind is a permanent or long term isolation device. This standard covers the dimensions for spectacle blind spades and spacers with pressure class 150 300 600 900 1500 and 2500 as listed in asme b16 5. These are three different components that used in piping for positive isolation of the section of a line or equipment during maintenance and shutdown.
